Bio
Edward J. Wang, PhD, is the Jacobs Faculty Chair in Entrepreneurship and associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at UC San Diego, founder and CEO of Billion Labs Inc., and founder and CTO of Motion Minder Inc. He is a multidisciplinary researcher whose work integrates signal processing, ubiquitous computing, machine learning, biosensors, and user-centered design to advance mobile and wearable health technologies. Through collaborations with clinicians and global health organizations, Dr. Wang develops innovative Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) tools and wearable sensing systems designed to expand access to health monitoring, particularly in low-resource settings.
Dr. Wang earned his PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Washington, where his dissertation demonstrated how smartphone sensors can be leveraged for large-scale health screening and chronic disease management. A recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the ARCS Foundation Fellowship, his award-winning research has been published in leading ACM conferences including UbiComp, IMWUT, CHI, and UIST, earning multiple best paper honors.
