At the 3rd a2 National Symposium, held at the Harvard Club of Boston April 3–4, 2025, Michael Kahana, PhD, delivered a plenary address on advancing cognitive health through AI and neurotechnology during a session titled “Managing Cognitive Impairment – From Early Diagnosis to Supportive Care.” Dr. Kahana is the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Term Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and CEO of Nia Therapeutics. His pioneering research integrates neuroscience and AI to decode brain activity and improve memory performance, particularly in those affected by cognitive impairment.
The session was introduced by Deepak Ganesan, PhD, professor of computer science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and co-director of MassAITC. Dr. Kahana highlighted the development of AI-guided closed-loop brain stimulation and the promise of wearable neurostimulation devices in treating memory loss related to Alzheimer’s disease and brain injury.
